Based on a series of Pepsi commercials from 2012, Uncle Drew is a fun sports-comedy about streetball coach, Dax (Lil Ray Howery) who enters a team in the world's largest streetball competition, Rucker Park. After spending his life savings on entering the team, his star player (Aaron Gordon) decides to join another team and Dax's entire team follows. Then Dax meets elderly streetball legend, Uncle Drew (Kyrie Irving) and assembles a new, or old, .

team for the Rucker.

Cinematography 15/20

The film has inconspicuous cinematography, the way it should be for the majority of a film of this genre. The in-game action shots are well executed and create a thrilling experience for the viewer.

Main Cast 17/20

I was pleasantly surprised by the chemistry and hilarity of the main cast. Considering that the main cast is only composed of three actual actors (Lil Ray Howery, Erica Ash and Shaquille O'Neal), the acting is brilliant. The only obvious flaw that the main cast displayed was the inability to capitalise on the humour of Shaquille O'Neal that he has displayed in previous films, though this would be a difficult task considering the seriousness of O'Neal's character for the majority of the film.

Supporting Cast 19/20

The supporting cast are purely brilliant in this film. Chris Webber and Lisa Leslie are able to create hilarious scenes while the arrogant character of Mookie is perfectly executed by Nick Kroll. Reggie Miller also stars as the centrepiece for some of the film funniest moments.

Originality 18/20

Former players returning to sports has been done many times before, but previously the returning players have always been younger than 50. When five 80-year-olds return to their forte, its a different story - and its hilarious.

Story 10/20

Despite being brilliantly executed by the cast, the story is unfortunately extremely predictable. To the writers credit, however; the basis for the story is definitely creative. The score gains a few additional points towards the end of the game, as a few additional unexpected plot points develop.

Overall: 79/100, SILVER

This film was very watchable and is definitely worth a sequel. In the meantime, we will be re-watching it to see if its goofy sense of humour ever gets old.
