Boy Erased tells the story of Jarrod, a college student who is forced to go to an anti - gay camp to be rid of his homosexual tendencies after being forced to reveal his secret to his christian parents.
Cinematography: 15/20
The cinematography in Boy Erased for the most part is fairly good, although some shots in the film are quite grainy and uninteresting to look at.
Main Cast: 17/20
Lucas Hedges gives a very committed performance as Jarrod and is very brave in fully encapsulating his character although some delivery of lines and physicality were lacking in comparison to the excellent acting he does most of the film.
Supporting Cast: 19/20
The supporting cast is one of the best assembled in a long time, Joel Edgerton, Russel Crowe and Nicole Kidman all give outstanding performances but still lute Hedges thrive without overshadowing him.
Originality: 16/20
For the most part, Boy Erased follows specific controversial biopic cliches and tropes but it is in the execution and the story that sets it apart from films of this nature.
Story: 18/20
Boy Erased is an unflinchingly realistic and often times very depressing look at the homosexuality issue in America that continues to induce prejudice and hate.
Overall: 85/100 (Gold)
