The Dark Knight follows Batman as he comes face to face with his most formidable enemy and violent psychopath, The Joker as the city of Gotham is thrust into chaos and Batman towards crossing the line between vigilante and criminal.

Cinematography: 20/20

The cinematography is immaculate in the Dark Knight, the dark colour grading and lighting effects serve the films dark and insinuating dread tone that Christopher Nolan was going for. The soundtrack primarily the Joker’s theme is both chilling, riveting and tense all in one not to mention the brilliant sound editing which accompanies the films action sequences which use absolutely no CGI and are all done practically.

Main cast: 20/20

So many critics and people have praised Heath Ledgers now iconic portrayal of the joker, but now it is my turn. This is and I have thought hard about this, one of the greatest performances I have ever seen, from the way he uses himself physically and his voice, Ledgers portrayal as the joker serves as both a terrifying and darkly funny incarnation of the crown prince of crime. Now not to give Ledger all the credit, Christian Bale as batman is not just my favourite batman ever, but he is Batman as far as I am concerned, he also plays Bruce Wayne exceptionally well.

Supporting cast: 20/20

All supporting cast members serve the film to an excellent degree and all have depth in their character, primarily Aaron Eckhart as two face, who just does a brilliant job as to adding depth to his character and all his development goes hand in hand with the story itself.

Originality: 20/20

We have seen so many superhero films that follow the same exact trope: big powerful bad guy wants to destroy the world, big powerful good guy doesn’t want him to, both fight and good guy wins. Not the Dark Knight. This fully realistic comic book film breaks the genre for being a crime drama, and a brilliant one at that.

Story: 20/20

The story of The Dark knight has so many layers, at its core its about lies, the lies we tell ourselves the false symbols we idolise and the lies that are in order to keep the order. You will have to watch the film to understand what im talking about, but this is one of the most multi layered films you will ever watch.

Overall: 100/100, PLATINUM

100/100, the highest grade I could possibly give, but The Dark Knight deserves it without a doubt. Not only being my favourite film of all time, this film is simply a masterpiece. I’ve watched this film more than any other film and not just for Heath Ledgers Oscar winning performance, but its just that the film builds and builds and builds to such an amazing conclusion.
