When Chris and his girlfriend, Rose, reach the 'meet the parents' stage of their relationship, determined for Chris to feel welcome she invites him to spend a weekend getaway at their families upstate house, however on arrival it is discovered that Rose's actions aren't so innocent and the sadistic intent for Chris is revealed.
Cinematography 19/20
Get Out boasts an impressive range of unique and ground breaking cinematography that is very unseen in horror films and provides a unique cinematic experience without barraging the viewer with absurd imagery.
Main Cast 20/20
The main cast in Get Out is simply excellent with primary standout performances from Daniel Kaluuya and Allison Williams who do not just sell the complex emotions that the script requires but they both equally serve the story in a unique and interesting way.
Supporting Cast 18/20
The supporting cast for the most part is equally as excellent in the film. However there were a few very minor actors in the film that were not as strong as the script required in certain scenes of tension and terror, nonetheless this supporting cast is incredibly impressive especially for an independent horror film.
Originality 20/20
Get Out has an absurdly unique and original feel to it. The concepts in the film have not been attempted on this scale before and it serves as a testament to the director that he is able to present such an original story in such an engaging and enthralling way.
Story 15/20
Whilst the story is unique and original, the film cannot help but feel discombobulated in parts, especially in the second act of the film, however I do not identify this is a major issue with the film but rather it is more of a nit-pick.
Overall 92/100, GOLD
Get Out provides a unique and original cinematic experience that proves that horror films can continuously evolve into more original movies and allows a solid foundation for the future of unique and innovating concepts to experiment with.
