Updated: Dec 2, 2018

Bohemian Rhapsody follows the rise of the rock band, Queen and the story of the band's lead singer, Freddie Mercury and his turbulent and often times devastating life story.

Cinematography: 20/20

The Cinematography in Bohemian Rhapsody perfectly encapsulates the time period in a way that no film really has (in subtle detail). In addition, the soundtrack surprisingly is almost completely comprised of Queen songs which was immensely impressive.

Main Cast: 20/20

Rami Malek's performance as Freddie Mercury is one of the best i have ever seen. The way he plays the character of Mercury is almost identical to the way that he was in real life, also the extensive use of Malek's voice instead of Mercury's is excellent and is a very risky idea considering the backlash that this choice could have gotten if his singing was not up to par. This is not the case however as Malek clearly shows talent in his singing ability alongside his performance.

Supporting Cast: 18/20

The supporting cast is for the most part are perfect at playing their roles, the three other band members are incredible, however two performances of minor characters could have been a bit better, a minor complaint considering the incredible acting on display otherwise.

Originality: 17/20

The film is almost completely original in the way it tells it's story, however some of the generic rock biopic tropes to appear from time to time but they aren't very noticeable.

Story: 18/20

The Story of Bohemian Rhapsody is incredible. The way it blends biopic storytelling, foot stomping music and genuine tragedy is truly admirable and the talent both behind the camera and in front of it becomes apparent when watching the film. In addition this isn't just a Freddie Mercury film, he is the main focus of the story but enough time was given to the other band members to make it a fair share of screen time.

Overall: 93/100 (Gold)

I absolutely loved this film. This is one of my favorite films of the year so far and one of my favorites in a long time, the film can be credited as both an excellent Queen film but also as an exceptional film in general.
