Widely regarded as one of the most disturbing films ever made, Apocalypse Now is set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War, the story follows a captain who must kill one of his own men who has gone mad, as he tries to find him, he descends further and further into madness and complete darkness.
Cinematography: 20/20
The cinematography is perfect in Apocalypse Now, i use the word perfect because it perfectly captures the time period and setting of the Vietnam war through excellent sound editing and just what you see on screen.
Main Cast: 20/20
The main character (Captain Willard) in the film is incredible, and this is thanks to an excellent performance by Martin Sheen to really bring this multi layered and complicated character to life.
Supporting Cast: 16/20
Pretty much the only weak point of the film, the supporting cast do not quite match the excellent main leads, but this is a minor complaint because of their still above average acting
Originality: 20/20
No Vietnam War film is told as excllent and unique as this film, the original idea of pitting two men against each other whilst their is a literal war going on is genius to say the least.
Story: 20/20
In addition to it's originality, the films story is relentless and continuously disturbing from begging to end, the story is so good that we feel like the character; descending into madness.
Overall: 96/100 (Platinum)
Apocalypse Now is not just in my top 50 movies of all time, its in at least my top 10 most disturbing movies of all time. this whole film is clouded with absolute darkness with not a single ounce of hope to be found, and for some that may be to much but to those people who truly appreciate cinema, this is a must watch.
