Juno

Juno is the story of a 16-year-old girl who is burdened with an unplanned pregnancy. She initially plans to get an abortion, to which her boyfriend has no objections, but she later decides to reconsider. Starring Ellen Page, this film is a relatively accurate example of an immature person dealing with life-changing decisions.

Cinematography 6/20

The soundtrack of this film is atrocious. Rather than attracting the viewer's attention, it gives a rather intense earache. The painfully long intro is dull, boring and terribly animated. The only aspect of the film's cinematography that is not a complete disaster are the camera angles, which still make for occasional unnecessary and graphically disgusting scenes.

Main Cast 9/20

Ellen Page's attempt at making Juno a likeable character unfortunately failed, as the majority of her performances simply bore and annoy the viewer. Paulie Bleeker (Micheal Cera) is played well, but is poorly written; an obvious example of the film choosing a logical story above being entertaining.

Supporting Cast 16/20

J. K. Simmons highlights the impressive supporting cast, which includes Jason Bateman. Simmons plays the role of the disapproving father perfectly, working with great chemistry alongside Alison Janney.

Originality 14/20

While films about teenage pregnancy exist, large films typically avoid such difficult topics. Juno's ambitious attempt to handle such a dilemma succeeds, to a certain degree, but in completing their main goal, they fail to make the film entertaining for the viewer.

Story 12/20

The story or Juno is not particularly creative, though it does fulfil its purpose; to display the inability of teenagers to handle difficult situations. It accurately displays how teenagers would come to an early solution, which - when they are given time to dwell on it - becomes questionable and they reconsider, being overwhelmed of the consequences of each choice.

Overall 57/100, BRONZE

This film is barely watchable, due to the disappointing performance from Ellen Page in the lead role and the atrocious cinematography. The film is saved by J. K. Simmons, who complicated and improved the story while playing his role to near perfection.
